Visit Sligo







The port of Sligo sits in the mouth of the River Garavogue in Sligo County, nestling between the Atlantic and Lough Gill. The largest town in the North West rose to fame as the home town of W.B. Yeates, Ireland best known poet. Many a tourist to visit Sligo comes here to take the tour of Yeates country, an 88 kilometre round trip taking in some of Yeates’ old haunts and a landscape which inspired some of his finest work.

Visit Sligo and the town itself is renowned for its traditional music scene and buoyant arts scene, and is a good base for exploring the county’s numerous attractions. The town’s major music festival, Sligo Live, takes place every October.
Still in County Sligo laying west of the town is the beautiful village and beach of Strandhill, set in a sublime spot with stunning views of the Knocknarea Mountain, has become a popular place for tourists, walkers and surfers in recent years.

To finish the visit Sligo to the east lays Lough Gill, a mystical lake with many good walking and cycling routes nearby.
